London City Guide

Despite going several times when I was young, London was still on top of my list of places I wanted to visit. Like many, I had heard of the the multitude of must-go restaurants, amazing art museums, lush parks and history, and I wanted to see it all again as an adult. Needless to say, the city exceeded my (high) expectations to the point where I found myself engaging in some very touristic sightseeing, which I hadn't done in years. Let's deep dive into this timeless wonder.

The Rosewood Hotel, London

The ornate rooms feature period furniture, pictures and antiques, and each has either a 17th-century carved oak or a Victorian 4-poster bed.

The British Museum, London

Things to do:

  • The Former focuses on exhibitions of international modern and contemporary art, the latter on British art from 1500 to the present day. Both excellent.

  • Located in the heart of Central London, by Soho, this gallery exhibits a curation of amazing photography from international artists.

  • The V&A is the world's largest museum of applied arts, decorative arts and design with a permanent collection of almost 3 million objects.

  • An institution displaying artifacts from around the globe.

  • If you are heading to Buckingham Palace after Westminster, walk through St James Park sit for a bit. This park is wonderful.

  • The most charming department store with an incredible selection of skin care brands among others. Also home to the famous floral print "Liberty".

  • Possibly the most beautiful place to look at wallpaper (and shop, if you can).

  • Located in Richmond, about 50-min west of London, this lovely and charming nursery allow its visitors to enjoy and afternoon tea in their teahouse. A very romantic break from the city.

Sweetings Restaurant, London

Where to eat and drink:

  • Famous for a reason, this restaurant opened in 1994 might be one of my favorite ever. In the perfectly designed dinning room, you will enjoy "nose to tail" dishes year round.

  • Excellent Thai food spot, perfect for solo dining. If you do not book in advance, expect a bit of a wait.

  • It is not by accident that Chef Tomos Parry got a Michelin star only six months after opening. There you can enjoy Basque inspired food cooked on wood fired ovens and grills.

  • There is no shortage of excellent Indian restaurants in London. Gunpowder is one of them and has three locations around the city.

  • Casual local pub serving excellent small bites and drinks in North London.

  • A City Of London institution serving great seafood from Monday to Friday at lunchtime.

  • Excellent modern Turkish restaurant in Dalston (East London).

  • Historic and iconic pub that will offer its visitors a very British experience.
